The effect of energy we use has on our environment can be negative and quite harmful to the planet. The movement towards renewable power sources to reduce our use of energy which comes from fossil fuels and other non-renewable resources is focused on improving the environment as well as saving money. By using renewable energy such as that produced from wind, solar, or geothermal sources we can reduce our carbon footprint and save substantial amounts of money. The costs of renewable energy is not much more than that of traditional power sources and this cost will go down significantly once the technology is able to produce enough to supply everyone.

Wind energy is being produced all over the world and is currently the leader in renewable energy production. This is due to wind power being the cleanest and least expensive to produce. Wind energy production doesn’t use any fossil fuels, does not give off harmful emissions, and has the ability to produce five times more than current global consumption. Wind energy has a worldwide production capacity of over 120,000 MW which makes it the most productive of renewable sources. Wind energy has been growing at a rate of 30% each year and shows no sign of slowing down. Wind energy production does not need to be left to the big wind farms. There are consumer products available that any homeowner can install to harness wind power and reduce the need for traditional electricity.

We all can take steps to reduce the negative impact we have on the environment. Our energy consumption is one of the leading causes of green house gases and harmful carbon emissions. Using renewable energy sources that provide electricity or heat as well as bio fuels for our automobiles are great ways everyone can take steps towards a happier, healthier planet, and save some money in the long run.
